Your role

The ABC Archive is the custodian of the largest collection of Australian Indigenous news and current affairs. This unique role sits within the ABC Archives Indigenous Collections and Community Access Team who are responsible for the management, curation, and care of the Indigenous Collection and who also provides research and access services to ABC Archive collections.

Reporting to the Indigenous Collections & Community Access Manager, the role will include:

  • Maintaining accurate records relating to Indigenous content.
  • Responding to incoming emails and phone calls related to access or information requests;
  • Cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities.
  • Contacting the relevant ICIP and Knowledge holders of ABC Archive collection items to assist in the interpretation of the content from an Indigenous perspective.

About you

Ideally, you will understand archival principles and be able to apply that knowledge to a variety of audio-visual broadcast media formats and records. To be successful in the role you will also bring:

  • Understanding of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights, Indigenous cultural protocols and related cultural safety issues, as well as the challenges in facilitating discoverability and accessibility of material that contains Indigenous cultural heritage.
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills, and experience in creating and maintaining records with accuracy.
  • Experience in the use of Collection Management database systems.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to respectfully and sensitively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
