Opportunity Expired
Policy research internships in the Commonwealth Parliament are open to students from across Australia for academic credit through the Australian National Internships Program (ANIP). Applications are now open for Semester 1, 2022.
Open to undergraduates and postgraduates of any academic discipline - recent parliamentary interns have completed research projects on cybersecurity, economic policy, regional Australia, international relations, energy policy, indigenous policy, global development, public health, domestic violence, counter-terrorism, science policy, criminology, environmental science, migrant integration, education, Australian history and law reform.
Through a Commonwealth Parliamentary Internship, students will undertake an applied public policy course at ANU and deliver a research report of between 4,000 and 10,000 words as part of either ANIP3003 or ANIP3005 (Undergraduate), or ANIP 6503 / ANIP6505 (Postgraduate).
To be eligible, students must be Australian citizens and have completed two years of undergraduate university study.
Interns will be based in the Commonwealth Parliament for a fortnight during parliamentary sitting weeks between February to May, where they will develop a policy research project and have the opportunity to engage with a range of activities that shape national policy-making.
During the remainder of the semester, they will continue to develop their project through working with electorate offices based in their home state. This research will be supported by ANIP's online learning platform and meetings with academic supervisors.
