The Firm
Barry Nilsson is an award-winning national law firm with a 60 year history and more than 430 staff. We are known for our insurance & health and family law expertise, and for offering the highest standards of industry knowledge to provide our clients with service they can trust.
BN has been listed as an Employer of Choice in the Australasian Lawyer Employer of Choice awards for the past five years. Our people describe our culture as friendly, professional, flexible and down-to-earth. In our most recent staff engagement survey 93% of respondents said that their manager is approachable, accessible and responsive and our people felt that their manager genuinely cares about their wellbeing.
Our Culture
Our people describe our culture as down to earth, friendly, supportive and professional. Throughout the firm’s expansion and evolution over recent years, our positive culture and values, including nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment for our people, have remained at the forefront of everything we do.
We foster the development of our lawyers through a structured mentoring program, continuing professional education, an ‘open door’ environment and access to high quality work. In order to encourage our people to have a good work/life balance, all full-time employees also enjoy every second Friday afternoon off.
The Clerkship Program
We're offering a number of penultimate year law students the opportunity to join our Brisbane office for a vacation clerkship throughout University breaks in 2024/25. Clerks will be given a unique opportunity to experience our firm, the work we undertake and most importantly, our culture.
Our Brisbane Clerks will undertake a three week clerkship during which they will rotate through our insurance & health and family law teams. Both groups are recognised throughout the industry for producing high quality advice and delivering exceptional service to our clients.
Our clerkship program is one of the pathways to gaining a graduate position at the firm and we will be on the lookout for stand out candidates who would be available to commence a graduate role with the firm in January 2026.
