This internship is with Wagga Wagga City Council and is facilitated by the CSIRO’s Generation STEM Links program.
As an environmental science intern at Wagga Wagga City Council, you will work alongside the council's environmental team to plan and support a range of projects. Your role will involve using your knowledge of erosion controls to monitor local ecosystems, conducting biodiversity assessments, and applying soil and water sampling techniques to ensure the health of local environments. You'll also research and implement habitat enhancement structures and learn natural resource management techniques to support a range of local flora and fauna.
In addition, you will apply your knowledge of engineering processes to support updates to existing habitat structures, including the local squirrel glider rope bridges and microbat roosts. Your GIS skills will be crucial in recording, mapping, and analysing spatial data, allowing for precise monitoring and reporting on project outcomes. The intern will also be required to conduct ECO surveys in the region as part of the project research requirements. Additionally, familiarity with ecological modelling and environmental impact assessments will help you contribute to long-term sustainability goals within the community.
