Summer 2024/2025 Internships
We have just 2 summer internships available in our Auckland Design Centre to the next generation of talent in Fashion/Textile Science or Science/Applied Science.
Summer Internships are paid fixed-term employment from mid-November 2023 to mid-February 2024. There is a Christmas closedown where you can get a break! If you want to apply your learning and set yourself up for your final year of study success, please don’t hesitate to join us! Also, at the end of your internship you may be offered a graduate position for when you complete your studies to come back and join us on a permanent basis.
What will you be doing?
You’ll be joining one of our Fabric Care Evaluation teams and working on a project to help develop our knowledge of the Science behind Fabric Care, which will then use to help us guide consumers to better outcomes. You will get the opportunity to plan and execute a project that will be designed to help investigate optimising the best laundering practices for different garment types. Throughout the duration of your project you will get a chance to collaborate with industry experts, providing key fabric care insights to support real outcomes and decision making as we iterate and improve our end products for our customers in the global market.
Our ideal students?
You should be curious, collaborative, human-centred and love to learn. Problem-solving is your jam. You love gathering data, analysis and presenting your findings. You’re a well-rounded person and have some interests outside of work – balance is important. Our selection process is designed for you to demonstrate both your technical and non-technical qualities so don’t hold back. Let’s get to know you.
Here at Fisher & Paykel Appliances, we design with people in mind and the lives lived around our products. We aim to create moments of delight together in the heart of the home, sustainably enhancing the quality of people's lives, now and for future generations. This purpose is the very heart of why we exist, it's our reason for being here.
We are driven by our values of being trusted, sustainably minded, innovative, generous, and curious. As a team, we take a collaborative approach and have a working environment where all ideas are heard, evaluated, and tested against our leading goal - to be the world's most human centred appliance brand.
What do our interns say about their experience with us?
There’s nothing like getting off campus and into a professional workplace and action learning alongside the world’s best design engineers. But don’t take our word for it. Here’s some comments from last summer’s interns:
“… Looking back on my performance as an intern, the learning curve definitely seemed steep at first but my supervisors and team were always there to support me and answer my abundance of questions. Experiencing the real-life application of the engineering design process throughout my project has been extremely valuable in developing my hands on engineering skills and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to industry.”
“The internship was well structured…I feel like I have gone through a bit of everything.”
“The internship was also centred around learning more than achieving project results which I think really help to transition from a student to an employee.”
