The Role

Be part of a market leading team that is responsible for delivering natural peril pricing and reinsurance costs to the IAG business units across Australia and NZ. The current team members have expertise in actuarial sciences, engineering, GIS and catastrophe modelling and your technical background in a subject related to actuarial, engineering or earth sciences will assist in the development of internal catastrophe models as well as the running and leveraging of external vendor models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of natural peril risk models for both reinsurance and risk-based pricing applications
  • Perform analysis on cyclone, earthquake, flood, bushfire, storm and hail claims data to extract outputs for pricing purposes
  • Help improve the understanding of how IAG's policies respond to natural peril events to ensure IAG exposures are represented appropriately within the peril models
  • Support the establishment of technical platforms to deliver pricing results to IAG business units and collaborate with external stakeholders
  • Provide general analytical support to the Group Natural Perils team

Skills & Experience

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience (1+ years) in a relevant discipline such as actuarial sciences, earth sciences, applied mathematics or engineering
  • Aptitude for working within a multi-disciplinary fast-paced team
  • Demonstrated capability to learn new software and processes
  • Ability to work autonomously in a solution orientated and delivery focused manner
  • Knowledge of natural perils as well as a passion for the subject matter
  • Experience in using tools such as SQL, R, Python GIS etc
