Culture at J.P. Morgan Australia

7.8
7.8 rating for Culture, based on 12 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Quite hierarchical given the global reach of the firm. However Sydney has a pretty flat structure where we are given lots of exposure to senior leaders. The work is high pressure and intense, but largely team driven.

Management encourages socializing among colleagues and teams.

Very hierarchal. You're expected to go far above and beyond if you want to leave a good impression as a grad. A lot of individual work and ownership

As far as investment banking goes, I think the culture is exceptionally good - I have heard horror stories across the street. I think culture is very team dependent - the reality is, 95% of day to day interaction is intrateam, and the culture of individual teams varies significantly across the floor. For my team, everyone is cordial, willing to help one another, and there is no culture of back-stabbing and throwing people under the bus to get ahead. This is particularly pronounced at the junior level.

The culture feels a bit dated in some ways (dress code, facetime etc.) but from a social perspective is quite good.

J.P. Morgan is a fantastic place to work. They are focused on delivering high quality service and products for clients and value their staff as their greatest assets. As such, there is a culture of working hard during office hours with a strong focus on teamwork. The firm has a holistic approach to supporting their staff and our "Business resource groups" (BRGs) do this by hosting events and workshops for a range of issues including professional development, managing work life balance, social justice and philanthropy. It is a very social place to work which is encouraged by the firm through events both within and outside work hours.
