The BIP team plays a unique role, acting as an interface between its industrial members and the community, the regulatory authorities and the combat agencies. The BIP works with each company on site to ensure consistently high standards of SH&E management are achieved. It provides specialist advice on occupational health and environmental management, and delivers systematic and proactive approaches to ensure that the BIP maintains an unrivalled reputation for excellence and innovation in the environmental arena. 

About the Opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

You will develop safe, operable, and cost effective solutions that meet the environmental objectives of the BIP. The role will include strong community interaction and coordination of public relations, regular engagement, negotiation and reporting with regulatory bodies, environmental incident support and management, as well as providing support and advice to all site members on dangerous goods, contamination and sustainability frameworks and legislation. 

The responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Providing an immediate response on the management and control of environmental incidents
  • Participating in incident investigations
  • Reporting to EPA, Sydney Water, Department of Planning and Environment and Safe Work NSW 
  • Coordinating BIP-wide environmental projects and improvements
  • Conducting environmental audits and legislative compliance
  • Providing advice and coordination on waste and dangerous goods storage, transport, and disposal
  • Providing training on various environmental issues through industry knowledge, forums and best practice
  • Management of community, residential and industrial neighbour concerns and complaints 
  • Coordination of contractors and BIP visitors

About You

With a strong degree-level academic record in an environmental engineering or science-based discipline and career aspirations in environmental management. Work experience in a similar field is desirable, but not essential.

The ideal candidate will be given the rare opportunity and freedom to develop their skills while providing environmental and SH&E support to Qenos, Orica, Huntsman and Ixom across the Botany Industrial Park operations.

  • You will possess well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse array of people and all levels of management
  • You’ll take the initiative and use your results-first mentality to drive continuous improvement across a number of different areas
  • You will possess some knowledge of environmental legislation, dangerous goods management and contaminated site management
  • You’ll have a can-do attitude, a deep sense of ownership, and an unflinching ability to think on your feet  to see tasks and projects through to completion
