About the Opportunity

Qenos now has a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Botany, NSW. 

Based at the Olefines site at Botany, you will be working in a dynamic environment with a multi discipline team to efficiently and effectively solve problems, ensuring that the plant operates in a safe and robust manner while meeting the overall business objectives.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Managing the in service inspections of pressure equipment, piping, storage tanks and structures are competently performed in conformance with Qenos, Australian and International Standards.
  • Overseeing all personnel involved in the inspection and maintenance of fixed equipment
  • Ensuring the competency of in service inspectors
  • Providing guidance/advice on methods to meet legislative requirements regarding pressure equipment & dangerous goods storage tanks.
  • Ensuring record keeping of all inspections are current
  • Liaising with SafeWork NSW in audits of fixed equipment
  • Managing projects related to fixed equipment remediation or replacement.
  • Understudying the Mechanical Turbo-Machinery Equipment Specialist / Plant Mechanical Engineering Specialist

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with significant demonstrated plant maintenance Mechanical experience ideally within a petrochemical or related field. 

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will possess the following:

  • An advanced technical capability and aptitude achieved from a 10+ year career in this field
  • In-depth exposure and familiarity with A1210, AS3788 and AS3920.1
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and developments in this area
  • A desire to develop and improve inspection methods
  • A drive for results with an ingrained sense of ownership and accountability with the courage to own the results of your actions
  • Previous experience with SAP or similar CMMS
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders of all levels (from plant operators and maintenance to senior management)
  • A strong understanding and commitment to SHE and Quality standards
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills with a high attention to detail
  • The ability to take initiative and work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Understands the failure mechanisms of pipes and pressure vessels.
  • Basic understanding of rotating equipment and the dynamics of rotating machinery.
