About the role

Serco are currently seeking an experienced Hairdresser/Barber based at the Adelaide Immigration Transit Accommodation (AITA), working with people in detention. Maintain a quality hairdressing service and also provide information in general make-up, manicure and self-care techniques, You may be required to support the wider Welfare & Engagement team. This is a casual role. The ability to use initiative and meet deadlines whilst remaining approachable and helpful is preferred.  

To be successful in this role you will have

• The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
• Relevant qualification in Hairdressing and/or Barbering that meet community standards
• First aid (HLTAID003) and CPR (HLTAID001) prior to commencement
• Previous experience in Hairdressing and Barbering
• Experience of working with people from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds
• Cut and trim hair according to detainee’s instructions,
• Listening to specifications and asking questions to clarify preferred style
• Ensuring appropriate safety procedures are maintained within workshop
• Clean and sterilize scissors, combs, clippers, and other instruments
• Maintain a clean workstation, including sweeping floors
• Achieve current hairstyles, using clippers, combs, handheld blow dryers, and scissors
• Utilise equipment to ensure that detainee’s clothing is protected during their visit
• Record services provided for audit and monitoring purposes
• The willingness to obtain a valid Australian Federal Police Clearance
• The willingness to obtain a valid state “Working with Children Check”
