The hospital also supports many health promotion and prevention programs. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

Biomedical Engineer Class 1 Position 1.0 EFT ongoing

A position exists within the Hugh Williamson Gait Analysis Laboratory for a Biomedical Engineer/ Scientist to work in gait analysis, ongoing in a full-time capacity.

The Gait Analysis Laboratory at the Royal Children's Hospital was the first clinical gait analysis laboratory in Australia and maintains an international reputation for clinical service and research.

Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Preparation and operation of equipment used for gait analysis
  • Processing of data captured, documentation and analyses
  • Participate in quality assurance, research and development programs relating to gait analysis.

Essential experience/qualifications:

  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Engineering. (Honours or Master’s degree preferred).
  • Previous work or project work in motion analysis.
  • Familiarity with a range of software products and programming language(s).
  • Previous experience with movement analysis systems is desirable.
  • Confidence in dealing with biomedical equipment at the level of day to day management and elementary troubleshooting. 

Desirable attributes:

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills particularly in working as part of the team with other health professionals and with children with disabilities and their families
  • Skills in managing workload and prioritising a variety of tasks
  • Ability to work independently under broad guidelines

The successful applicant would be expected to undertake continuing professional development and training as required.

There will be the opportunity to be part of professional development activities depending on experience in clinical research.
